Hello everyone! Term 2 has been a very long term. I’m sure you will really welcome the term break, which is coming up very soon. Here are some updates before our term break.
Fundraising – Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Nunawading
This event took place on Mon, the 9th June. It was a gloomy day and drizzling at one point too, but it surely did not stop us from selling sausages!! We sold at least 740 hot, yummy sausages and raised a whopping $1661.40 on the day!! It was a fantastic result.
I would like to thank the following parents who came and helped us cook sausages, serve and collect money from customers, and clean up on the day; they are Heng Duong, Theresa Yu, Mary Leung, Leypeng Thomas, Karen Loh, Tran & Kevin Tan, Chris Chow, Jessica Tsai (Mandarin Teacher), Myles Vinecombe, Maritta Car (German Teacher), Linda, Wesley, Maria Chan, Mr Chin, Alex Kuo and Eli Theeboom. THANK YOU!!
We would also like to acknowledge the following parents who donated money or items to keep our cost down. Linda donated $64 for us to buy bread and Tunstall Square Coles donated 10 loaves of bread. The German parents group donated $106 ($86 before the event and $20 after the event), Melissa donated $50, Angelina donated $50, Mary donated $20, Westfield Coles donated $20 (card); a total of $226 (cash) which we used to pay for our sausages. Liz also donated a $35 cheque and Eva donated $30 after the event, which will be deposit into our account shortly. Jennifer donated 20 kg of sliced onions, Pauline donated oil and serviettes, Stephanie and Som donated tomato sauce, Wesley donated mustard and BBQ sauce, Sook Lin donated disposable gloves, Ruby donated garbage bags, Eva lent us her esky and cooking utensils, Mary lent us her esky, Selvy lent us her esky, Heng donated 4 bags of ice and Leypeng lent us her esky and temperature probe. THANK YOU ALL!!
Thanks to Maria Chan for applying for the temporary food permit from the council and getting all the necessary papers to Bunnings before the event. Thanks Maria!
Lastly, a BIG Thank You to the Chin family for staying at our stall for half of the day cooking, serving and collecting money from customers and the Theeboom family (Marisha and Eli) for getting everything together, from organising helpers to getting donations from Coles, shopping around for the best supplies of bread and sausages (Marisha) and for setting up the sausage stand and cooking to cleaning up on the day (Eli).
Great team work!! We would not have raised so much money without your help. We are looking forward to doing it again next year.
THANK YOU!!
Enrolment/fees for Term 3/4
Registration for next semester’s (Term 3/4) classes with payment opens 16th June till 28th June. We do advice parents to register and pay during these two weeks so as not to be disappointed as we do have new children coming in next semester and spaces for these children have already been taken, especially the popular sessions. I will be around during these two weeks to register your child/ren and collect fees. If you don’t find me at the centre, please leave your payment with your child’s name and group in an envelope in the box located on the pink shelf. Thank you, Leypeng Thomas.
Baby Sessions
Due to a current baby boom situation, there is a high demand for weekly baby sessions to be established in term 3. We are here to announce that Mandarin baby sessions will be on Monday and Friday Mornings 9:15-9:45am for newborns to 12 months old. Fees are $60.00 for one session a term ($6.00 per session) or $100.00 for two sessions per week ($10.00 per week). Casual class fees are $8.00 for each session; parents may pay as your baby attends the class. The activities in these classes include floor time, gross motor skills, exercise, music, singing and dancing, story time and relaxation for moms. Parents are encouraged to bring their babies out for early language learning experience and help their babies to establish a sense of social gatherings and feeling comfortable around other people. Please bring your own floor mat or baby exercise gym, other gross motor skill toys are provided by us. Please register your interest soon, places are very limited due to high demand.
Parking
Thank you to all parents who have parked their car sensibly. We really appreciate your cooperation. Continue the great effort.
Excursion
All groups are to organize their own excursion for the final session of the term individually. However, combined group excursions for each teacher are encouraged. For example, Mandarin teachers can organize a big Mandarin group outing so Jessica and Anne can combine all their own classes individually and choose a day and a place to go, as can the German groups’ teacher Maritta meet with all German families in any chosen place.
I know the winter weather might not be perfect for an excursion but the children love it anyway! To make learning a second language a fun experience for our little ones, and make it a living experience, an outing is a must. There are so many things that we can introduce to our little ones outside of the playroom, so parents, gather your energy and take your child/ren out for a fun and exciting experience with us.
That’s all to reports for this newsletter. Enjoy the rest of term. Thank you for your attention.
