Newsletter February 2008

We have had an excellent start to 2008. The children, parents and teachers have all settled in comfortably and are keen to get the year underway.

Annual General Meeting: 26th February 2008

Kimmba is a non-profit organisation and run by a voluntary Committee of Management comprising a wide range of positions. We shall be holding our AGM on 26th of February 2008, Tuesday 7:30pm. We can never stress enough how important your presence to the AGM, we need as many attendance as possible. During the AGM, teachers, committee members and staff will be there to explain how we run our playgroups; what you can do to enrich your child’s learning experience; and electing of a few important committee positions.

Outdoor Play Area

We would like to express our gratefulness to Chong family’s donation. With the generosity, we managed to get the outdoor play area a reality shortly. A BIG thank you to the following families: Bushby family has donated tyres and sandpit box for us, Marisha’s family has donated the rest of the outdoor equipments and a big thank you to Casie’s mum for putting up our cubby house.

More playgroups, more venues

We are very pleased and thrilled to be approached by parents in the inner city and Malvern East to open up two more Mandarin playgroups. Marisha is working hard on the opening of these two venues and, with a bit of luck and dedication; we may have two more Mandarin Bilingual Learning playgroups opened up in these two venues shortly. Details will be available soon.

Toy Catalogue fundraising

We would like to sincerely thank our parents that had participated in this successful fundraiser last year. Thanks to your purchases, our centre has received $490 worth of books from them and surely our children would enjoy all those books in the years to come! Thank You!

End of year Concert DVD

We still have the DVD for sale. Anyone that’s interested to keep a copy of our children’s performance last year is welcome to get one. They are $20 each.

Volunteer/ committee members

We are in need of a volunteer or a committee member/s to help us in applying grant and funding from councils or Government departments, or contact companies or local bushiness i.e.: Telstra, BHP etc. for sponsorships. If you have the experience and knowledge in how to go about doing so, we would really appreciate your help. Your valued aid will be to benefit our children and their learning experience. If/when we do get the funding, we’d like to use it to buy better tables and chairs for the children; more books and flash cards as classroom material and an interactive whiteboard to help teachers to use the newest teaching technology to make the learning more fun to our young children.

Primary level Language Classes

We may be opening up more classes for after school program which suits advance students i.e.: prep and primary school children in the languages we are currently offering. Please register your interest if you’re interested.

German Classes

Due to our overwhelming attendance for our German class, we have created a new class to accommodate all our new students.

Our new class times are Tues 9:45-11:15 and Tues 11:30-1:00 so now we are able to take more families in each session. We are looking at progressing one of these classes from short program (1½ hour) to long program (2 ½ hours) in the next 6 months. Our children will be able to learn more German with longer hours especially when their concentration span has grown.

Cantonese Class

We are looking for more families to join our Cantonese class, we still have placements available. To Cantonese families, do not overlook the benefit of your mother tongue, our Cantonese teacher is a native Cantonese speaker and she’s a very well trained and qualified language teacher. Please spread this news to families that may be interested to learn this most widely spoken Mandarin dialect in Melbourne.

Spanish Class

We shall be having two Open Days for our Spanish class on Saturday, 23rd of February and 1st of March from 10am to 12pm. We welcome all families to come for an unforgettable fun Spanish language learning and dancing for children. Our Spanish teacher is a native speaker, she has vast experience teaching children from1 to 12 years old and she is a great Latin American dance teacher. She’s currently doing her Master Degree in Psychology at Melbourne University and she is committed and devoted to our unique bilingual program to help young children learn Spanish.

Sausage Sizzle at Bunning Nunawading: 9th June 2008.

We are very fortunate to have secured a booking at Bunning Warehouse for fundraising opportunity. This fundraiser will help us raise much needed funds for our playgroup. We require many parents’ help for the preparation and on the actual day itself. A roster list for volunteers will be put up at the notice board in early May. Please pencil this date in your diary; we need your help in making this a success.
